Baby Chakraborty: Murshidabad:- Several places in Murshidabad have been burning for the past week. Initially, the police maintained silence, but after the central forces were deployed on the orders of the court, the local police increased their activity. The peace that is prevailing in Murshidabad at the moment is actually the ‘peace of the crematorium’. Many families in Murshidabad have gone to Malda and taken shelter in relief camps. In this situation, the state has removed two OCs of Suti and Shamsherganj police stations. According to police sources, two IC-rank officers have been appointed after removing the OCs of Shamsherganj and Suti police stations. A senior official of the district police said, “Those two police stations are the most affected in the district. Out of the three people who died due to violence, two are from Shamsherganj and one is from Sutir. And therefore, more skilled and higher-ranking police officers have been appointed to run those two police stations. The question arises, will removing the two OCs solve the problem? We have to go to the root of the problem. Many are saying that this was not an anti-Wakf Amendment Act movement at all. This is a destructive communal madness planned in advance. If we do not find out who is behind this, this incident will happen again in the future. There are doubts about how proactive the police has been in this regard.
On Thursday, ADG South Bengal Supratim Sarkar held a press conference on the violence in Murshidabad. He said that allegations of intelligence failure are being investigated. In a notification issued by Bhabani Bhavan on Thursday, it was informed that Inspector Subrata has been taken in charge of Shamsherganj police station. Inspector Supriyo Ranjan Majhi is in charge of Ghosh and Suti police stations. As a result, the importance of these two police stations under Jangipur police district has increased. The issue of whose importance has increased and whose importance has decreased is now meaningless. What is needed now is to go to the root cause of the problem. According to police sources, 121 people have been arrested so far in the Murshidabad case. If the police make efforts, the police can go to the root cause of the problem from them. It is not just changing the OC, the police will have to walk that path.
