Baby Chakraborty: Howrah:- The Commercial Department of Eastern Railway’s Howrah Division has recently achieved significant success in its ticket checking drive, identifying around 72,790 cases of ticketless travel and irregular tickets. In the month of August 2024, the ticket examiners collected a fine of around Rs 1.9 crore. The number of cases increased by 10.32% compared to the same period last year.
Passengers are also encouraged by Eastern Railway to use various convenient ticketing options including online ticketing through ticket counters, Automated Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM), IRCTC website and UTS mobile app. For seamless and smooth transaction, passengers can also use QR code payment mode, Railways said.
“Travelling without a ticket not only incurs huge fines but also tarnishes one’s image in the society,” said the chief public relations officer of Eastern Railway. He urged all passengers to use multiple ticketing options to avoid fines and ensure a smooth journey. He has given a message to every railway passenger to encourage his fellow passengers to buy tickets.
