Supreme Court orders junior doctors to return to work

Baby Chakraborty, Kolkata:- It has been a month since the rape-murder of the young doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. The junior doctors participating in the protest have called for a strike. In the midst of all this, the junior doctors have also launched Lalbazar campaign demanding the resignation of the Kolkata Police Commissioner.

The junior doctors have been protesting without working for almost a month. State reports say 23 people have died so far in the 28-day strike by doctors due to lack of adequate medical services. The Chief Minister of the state has repeatedly requested the doctors to return to work to control the situation. Even after that, continuous protests are going on. The top court of the country also gave the same message in the second hearing of the Supreme Court on Monday.

He reminded that providing treatment is the main job of doctors, so they have to return to work now judging by the situation. The Supreme Court has fixed the time for that. In the second hearing of this case on Monday, the bench of the country’s Chief Justice DY Chandrachud told the doctors to return to work quickly. Also, it has been specifically ordered that the protesting doctors should return to work by 5 pm on Tuesday.

The top court of the country also said that the state will not take any action against them during this period. But if the doctors do not return to work even after that, the Supreme Court cannot stop the state government from taking any action against them. The apex court also reminded that the state must ensure that the state government will not take any action against those who return to work in time.
