Bengaluru city embroiled in language controversy, with controversy fueled by viral posts on social media

Baby Chakraborty :- A new debate has recently emerged on social media regarding the issue of “outside insider” in Bengaluru. That is the language debate.

This debate is not new in various states including South India. But it has been associated with external controversies. A person on social media has claimed that the city of Bengaluru belongs exclusively to Kannadas. Which has created a controversy. The post created a lot of controversy for dividing people on the basis of language. A post by a user named Manju on social media sparked a controversy.

He wrote “To all people coming to Bangalore if you don’t understand Kannada or try to speak Kannada you will be treated as an outsider in Bangalore. Write this share around we are not joking”. After the post went viral on social media, there was a flurry of criticism everywhere, with netizens, condemning Bangalore as a city belonging to India. So it is not correct to make such comments. Shrishti Sharma responded by saying “Bangalore has always been part of India. Respecting local culture is one thing but superior behavior is not acceptable”.

A few months ago, the Bengaluru municipality issued an order saying that the signboards of shops, markets, hotels and business establishments should use the corner language along with the English language. If they do not comply, their license will be revoked. Along with such viral posts on social media, the Bengaluru Municipal Council’s guidelines have created considerable controversy.
