Baby Chakraborty: Hooghly :- Police active in controlling the use of gambling on the occasion of Kali Puja and Diwali have recovered a large amount of banned gambling in several operations. On Sunday, the police of Dadpur police station in Hooghly, after receiving a tip-off from a secret source, raided Harit village and recovered 35 kg of banned beets from a house. Legal action has been taken against the owner of the house. Besides, raids were also conducted in Mal Chandinagar area of Haripal police station and around 115 kg of tubri, cell, kalipotka, tree bomb and many other types of prohibited items were seized.
Gopalnagar police station of North 24 Parganas has also carried out special operations to recover prohibited words. On Sunday night raids were conducted at Kadmatla in Santoshpur on tip-off and 15 kg of banned beets were recovered and the seller Vidhubhushan Das was arrested. Police investigation revealed that he was running an illegal wordsmithing business. A few days ago, the police also recovered a number of chattels from the Gaighata police station area.
An anti-ban betting campaign is being carried out by the rural police across Hooghly district.
