Baby Chakraborty:- A branch of Bharat Sevashram Sangh was established in 1953 at Mahishadal in East Medinipur with the aim of spreading education in the local area, primary medical services, construction of hostels for the education of poor distressed boys and distribution of relief materials to flood affected people. Param Pujya Srimat Swami Muktanandi Maharaja established this ashram.
A non-paying primary school was also established in the sanctum sanctorum of the ashram, which was later taken over by the West Bengal government. Since 1974 the school has been government run. Another private school was established and an ITI college was established by the Bharat Sevashram Sangh Mahishadal branch to improve the education system in the region for a long time. Throughout the year the ashram conducts various service activities like free medical camps, distribution of blankets, plantation of fruit trees among the local people. The ashram is always engaged in various social activities including distribution. The open area in front of the ashram was built by the ashram wall and decorated with valuable sayings of various sages for many years. Unfortunately, when the ashram kept some vehicles used for various functions and schools in the open space in front of it, some people of the government primary school provoked some people from the minority community and came forward to damage the vehicles and the main gate of the ashram. Not only that. They are spreading various kinds of intimidation saying that the space in front of the ashram will not be allowed to be used by the ashram and “Journalist Baby Chakraborty is dishonest – said the headmistress of that school…”.
Baby Chakraborty comments that any news media is the fourth pillar of democracy. I am a journalist I can ask questions it is my job and it is my right recognized by the constitution.
A few days ago, due to heavy rains, the canal in front of the ashram was badly damaged, when the ashram took various initiatives including blocking the bank of the canal, the said government primary school was greatly obstructed. But they have been repeatedly told that the place in front of the ashram will only be renovated and beautified. In view of that, the school has faced various obstacles and the work has stopped.
