Baby Chakraborty: Jalpaiguri:- Horrible weapon in hand, child in arms. To highlight the current situation, Picasso’s exquisite creation of Purism Guernica will emerge in the form of a decagon. Note, Pablo Picasso’s creation Guernica is a mural depicting the complete destruction and pain caused by the civil war. Begun just days after the bombing of the Basque city of Guernica in April 1937 during the Spanish Civil War, the post-Cubist painting is a monochrome collage of various scenes, including a woman raising her arms menacingly with a burned structure behind her, a woman holding a dead child. Holding, improbably angled head of a bull and above it hangs an electric light.
The atmosphere of the Spanish Civil War is very similar to the current state of unrest in countries, states and the world.
And in this situation, one of the Durga Puja Committees of Jalpaiguri City, New Para Adi, felt that the perfect creation of Picasso was right and timely.
Keeping the theme of puja in front, the artist is making in his own studio by coating clay on wood and ply board, the idol of Goddess Durga with arms, accessories, said Biswajit Ghosh, one of the sculptors of North Bengal. Going to the entire state, country, even the world, such a situation was seen even a hundred years ago, that is why the work is being done by fusing the purism that emerged in Picasso’s art work with Indian art.
