
Baby Chakraborty:- After the meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee formed to discuss the Waqf Amendment Bill, the opposition members have strongly demanded that they need more time. It is learnt that they will meet Speaker Omilla on the first day of the winter session of Parliament on Monday regarding that demand.
Committee Chairman Jagadambika Pal was saying that the report has been prepared. . But after the meeting went on for more than six hours, the opposition members in the committee sat down. Demanding an extension to the committee’s term, they said that they need more time to scrutinize the changes in the draft law. The committee chairman said that the draft bill would be given to them to pacify the opposition members. But even that did not calm them down. The opposition raised slogans, demonstrated and even called the Speaker demanding his intervention in the matter.
25 meetings were held with various organizations regarding the amendment bill. Discussions were held with representatives of the Ministry of Minority Affairs for more than 29 hours in five days. Regarding the extension, the opposition members have said that they will meet the Lok Sabha Speaker. Jagadambika Pal, the chairman of the committee on this issue, said that the final decision on the extension can be taken by the Lok Sabha Speaker. However, the government believes that there is no need to extend the deadline again when the draft is ready.
