Baby Chakraborty :- Veteran BJP leader Nitin Gadkari was far ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in terms of importance. Many see Gadkari as Modi’s rival. Recently, Central Roads and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari leaked confidential information in an interview. The confession caused a storm in national politics. The question started to arise whether the opposition camp tried to form the government by making a BJP leader the prime minister after the Lok Sabha polls.
Gadkari himself fueled that speculation. Gadkari said, “I have been offered the prime ministership several times. Before and even after the Lok Sabha polls.” He also clarified that the offer did not come from the BJP. No question arises. I cannot deviate from my ideals. It is not my intention to become the Prime Minister. I live by ideology”.
But it is clear that many in the BJP see Nitin Gadkari as a rival to Modi. The BJP did relatively poorly in the Lok Sabha elections this year. That’s when Gadkari’s name was being floated. Many opposition leaders also expressed support for Gadkari.
Modi’s rise came after 2012-13. Then Amit Shah and Nadda came up holding Modi’s hand. At this time Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari left with a bit of a bag.
