In solidarity with the movement, the members of the Democratic Writers Shilpi Sangh tied rakhis on the hands of the hunger strikers. There is a special significance behind choosing this day. Rabindranath Tagore celebrated the Rakhi Bandhan festival on October 16, 1905 in protest against the partition of Bengal.

Through this Rakhibandhan festival, the agitators have gained strength from various sections of the society for their demands and they are determined to continue the movement. Snigdha Hazra, Arnab Mukherjee, Sayantani Ghosh Hazra and many other junior doctors have been on hunger strike since day one. The hunger strike has also started in North Bengal Medical College from October 6. A total of 6 hunger strikers are hospitalized in Dharmatala and North Bengal. Two more junior doctors, Rumelika Kumar and Spandan Chowdhury, joined the hunger strike in Dharmatala yesterday.
Right now a total of 8 junior doctors are on hunger strike. They are being physically examined every day and the report says that everyone’s physical condition is deteriorating and various problems have arisen. Still, the junior doctors persisted in their hunger strike. The question of when the deadlock between the state government and doctors will end is still elusive.
