Baby Chakraborty: Kolkata:- He had already announced the decision to boycott the meeting as the opposition was not being heard. Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee sent an email to Speaker Om Birla questioning the JPC (Joint Parliamentary Committee) meeting that started again on Waqf. How was the meeting with only five people there?
In the letter sent to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha on Saturday, Kalyan Banerjee wrote, “We, the members of the opposition party, raised several complaints against the chairman of the JPC”. I met you last November 5. By listening to us, you agree with our statement. We thought the 9th tour would be cancelled. But I was surprised to see that the trip was not cancelled, but a meeting was held in Guwahati with a group of only five members!
Pointing the finger of accusation directly at JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal, Trinamool Congress MPs claimed that the chairman’s insensitive behavior has made the proceedings of the parliamentary committee a mockery. It is also against the constitutional principles. However, Kalyan requested Om Birla as the guardian of the Lok Sabha to look into the matter.
On Thursday, parties including the opposition alliance ‘India’ decided to boycott the five-state tour of the parliamentary joint committee on the Waqf Bill. Kalyan Banerjee, one of the members of Waqf JPC and the Trinamool Congress MP from Srirampur, announced this in a press conference at Kolkata Press Club.
